Holistic pain management is an approach that takes into account the emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of the individual in addition to the person’s physical state. Studies have shown that both chronic and cancer pain can improve when these factors are taken into consideration. Complementary interventions are offered to manage pain including those that tap into the body’s own natural healing powers.
Center for Pain and Supportive Care offers many different complementary interventions. CPSC’s group visit model, the first of its kind in Phoenix and founded by the late Dr. Lisa Stearns, has been implemented to provide social, emotional, and physical support that patients need to improve their overall quality of life, function and relationships. The goal of the group visit model is to educate patients about their chronic pain and offer them options to improve their quality of life outside of traditional medication management and interventional therapy. Interventions applied include breath work, mindfulness, and functional movement.
